Chao Xu McLean VA Accident: Mount Anthony Wrestling Team injured in car crash

Chao Xu McLean VA Accident:- Several members of the Mount Anthony Union High School (MAUHS) wrestling team were injured in a serious car accident on Saturday, January 17, according to school officials and Vermont State Police (VSP).

The crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. on Bristol Road in Monkton, Vermont, involving a 2025 GMC Yukon XL driven by Chao Xu, 35, of McLean, Virginia, and a 2017 Toyota Tacoma carrying the wrestling team.

Slippery snowy and slushy road conditions caused Xu’s vehicle to slide into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with the Toyota, which was driven by Christopher Glaski, 53, of Bennington. Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage, and airbags deployed in both cars.

The GMC Yukon XL carried Xu and three adult passengers, all of whom suffered minor injuries. The Toyota Tacoma carried Glaski and three juvenile passengers, including the student athletes. Glaski and one passenger sustained moderate injuries, while two passengers suffered serious injuries.

All were transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment. The wrestling team and their coach had been returning from the Michael J. Baker Wrestling Classic at Essex High School.

In response to the incident, Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU) emphasized the need for community support, stating that additional details could not be released at this time and encouraging the MAUHS community to keep the team in their thoughts.

Counseling and support resources were scheduled to be made available for students and staff starting Tuesday to help them cope with the emotional impact of the crash. The accident highlights the dangers of winter road conditions and has left the MAUHS community deeply concerned for the health and recovery of the injured athletes and their coach.
